MY FAVOURITE TV SERIES OF 2021

A social satire set at an exclusive Hawaiian resort, the series follows the vacations of various hotel guests over the span of a week as they relax and rejuvenate in paradise. But with each passing day, a darker complexity emerges in these picture-perfect travelers, the hotel’s cheerful employees, and the idyllic locale itself.
As I reflect upon what I have seen in 2021, I realise what a stellar year it has been for TV shows. So picking ten favourite shows for TV this year was not a problem. Deciding which one to leave out in the list was more difficult. For me, 2021 had been even worst than 2020 from the pandemic impact point of view. I found myself spending more time in the house this year than I did in 2020 no thanks to the huge numbers of corvid cases reported in Malaysia for a good portion of the year. On the brighter side, that also meant more time spend to catch up on the movies and shows at home.
I have to admit that there were simply too many new series for me to watch so my list of favourites here may not be totally comprehensive and only reflects on what I managed to catch. There were a lot of series I had meant to watch but never got around doing it before the year ended so they automatically missed the boat for being considered. The following are my favourites for the year, and as before, they are not listed in any particular order or preference, with the exception of the one at number 1 which I consider as my personal BEST for the year. That honour, without hesitation goes to HBO’s The White Lotus.
- THE WHITE LOTUS
- MIDNIGHT MASS
- A SUITABLE BOY
- THE SERPENT
- THE MOSQUITO COAST (SEASON ONE)
- SERVANT (SEASON TWO)
- HALSTON
- THE NORTH WATER
- BLACK SUMMER (SEASON TWO)
- THE MORNING SHOW (SEASON TWO)

Watching a TV series is unlike watching a movie because it usually means committing a lot more time to a TV series by virtue of the fact that most run for many episodes. As of the end of the year, I have yet to begin watching quite a lot of TV series released in 2021 including a number of major releases like DAY OF THE DEAD, Y: THE LAST MAN, IMPEACHMENT (AMERICAN CRIME STORY), CLARICE, and more recently, A VERY BRITISH SCANDAL. I must be the only person I know who have not seen the hit Korean TV series SQUID GAME! So what this means is that my coverage of TV series for 2021 is limited and not necessarily reflective or representative of the year’s offerings. It is just my personal list.
Finally, before I send, we mustn’t forget what was bad. For me, the worst TV series seen in 2021 is INVASION SEASON ONE. Let me know what were your personal favourites and worst TV series of 2021 in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
