Panic is a 10 episode mini series that plays like one of those dime a dozen teenage horror movies. Its cast is made up of a bunch of brainless college students whose only ambition seem to be have fun in live. I wonder if this is a true reflection of what American culture is like. In Panic, we follow a bunch of college graduates in a fictional small town in Texas called Carp. Life in Carp is supposed to be so dull and without prospect that graduating students risks their lives each year to participate in a game of survival called Panic. The goal is a cash prize that is enough to buy the winner a ticket out of Carp to start a new life. This of course makes little sense since anyone with a good education should be able to venture outside their hometown. America is after all often touted as the live of opportunities.

The premise offers all sorts of opportunity for the series to come up with ridiculous challenges which the contestants have to face their fears and basically not panic in order to get through. Olivia Scott Welch and Ray Nicholson plays the star crossed lovers involved in the whole messy contest while Jessica Sula and Camron Jones plays her best friends. These actors are nice eye candy but at the end of the day, they all come across as very one dimensional. The dialouge throughout the series is very feathered brain and since it is a series, we basically have to live through recurring scenes played slightly differently week in and week out. The plot gets more preposterous as the finale is approaching with dirty cops and double crossing and counter double crossing to provide the excitement. There is even a ridiculous subplot involving a tiger that just happens to be needed for a pivotal plot device at the end.

Having said all that, I am surprised that I managed to motivate myself to watch the whole series! Usually if a TV series is truly terrible, I would give up on it very much earlier in the series. Somehow, the badness of Panic, does, I hate to say it, become addictive. The silliness of the plot and predictable romantic angles, still had some horrible effect to induce me to see how much more silly this can get. So, despite all its short comings, Panic still has some weird hold on it viewers to see it through to the end.
